Searching for Content, Hashtags, and People on Whistlr
How to search effectively, filter results by type, and manage your search history
With so much happening across Chattr, Minis, Discover, and Nearby, search is often the fastest way to find exactly what you're looking for on Whistlr — whether that's a specific person, a topic you're curious about, or a hashtag you saw mentioned elsewhere. This article walks through how to search effectively, filter your results, and manage your search history.
Starting a Search Tap the search icon, usually located in the navigation bar or at the top of the Discover tab, to open the search screen. From here you can type a username, a keyword, or a hashtag directly into the search bar. As you type, Whistlr suggests matching accounts, hashtags, and popular searches in real time, so you can often find what you need before finishing your full query. Tap any suggestion to jump straight to that profile, hashtag page, or set of results.
Searching by username is the most direct way to find a specific person — type their exact handle or a close variation, and matching accounts will appear with their profile picture and display name to help you confirm you've found the right one. Searching by keyword instead pulls together a broader mix of results, including posts, Minis, and Pods that mention your search term in their captions, descriptions, or tags. Searching by hashtag, which you can do by typing the word directly or including the # symbol, takes you to a dedicated hashtag page showing all public content tagged with that term, often sorted with the most popular posts first.
Filtering Your Search Results Once you've run a search, use the filter tabs near the top of the results screen to narrow things down by content type. These tabs typically include People, Posts, Minis, Hashtags, and sometimes Pods, letting you jump straight to the kind of result you're after instead of scrolling through a mixed list. Switching between filters keeps your original search term in place, so you can quickly compare, for example, which accounts versus which hashtags match the same word.
Search should feel like a shortcut to what you already have in mind, not another feed to scroll through.
  • People: Shows accounts whose username or display name matches your search, helpful for finding friends, creators, or businesses by name.
  • Posts: Shows Chattr posts and Imprints whose captions or tags match your search term.
  • Minis: Shows short-form videos with captions, sounds, or tags related to your search.
  • Hashtags: Shows hashtags that match or contain your search term, along with how much content is tagged with each one.
  • Pods: Shows community spaces whose name or description matches your search, useful for finding a community around a specific interest.
Managing Your Search History Whistlr keeps a list of your recent searches to make it faster to return to people or topics you've looked up before. Tap into the search bar without typing anything to see this history displayed below it. To remove a single entry, swipe it or tap the X next to that search term. To clear your entire search history at once, go to Settings > Privacy > Search History and select Clear Search History. Once cleared, your previous searches won't appear as suggestions, though this doesn't affect what other people can find when they search for you.
Search works best as a quick, focused tool, and the filtering and history options are there to keep it that way. If you're trying to manage how visible your own account is in other people's search results, take a look at our article on making your account private versus public.
