Sharing Posts to Other Apps or Copying a Link
How to share a Whistlr post externally, what non-users see when they open a shared link, and sharing to your Story
Sometimes the best place for a great post is somewhere other than Whistlr itself. Whether you want to send a Chattr post to a friend over text, repost a Minis video to your Story, or just grab a link to paste into a group chat, Whistlr makes it simple to take content beyond the app while keeping the original creator attached to it.
Opening the Share Sheet Tap the share icon underneath any post, Mini, or Imprint to open the share sheet. From here you'll see two main paths: sharing directly to another app installed on your device, or copying a link you can paste anywhere yourself. Both options work the same way whether the content lives in Chattr, Minis, Waves, or Discover.
The "Share to" row across the top of the share sheet shows the apps you use most often for sharing, such as messaging apps, email, or notes apps, based on what's installed on your device. Tapping one of these hands the post off to that app along with a preview image and a link back to the original post on Whistlr, so whoever receives it can open the full post with one tap.
Copying a Link Below the app row, tap Copy Link to save the post's web address to your clipboard. This is the most flexible option since you can paste the link into literally anything: a Replyd message, a group chat in a Pod, a text message, or a caption on another platform entirely. The link always points back to the original post, so engagement like reactions and comments stays counted on the creator's post rather than being split across copies.
If you'd rather keep the share inside Whistlr, the share sheet also includes a Send To option that lets you deliver the post directly to a specific person or group through Replyd, without ever leaving the app. This is often faster than copying a link if the person you're sharing with already has a Whistlr account.
Sharing should make great content travel further without losing track of who made it — every link and every share sends people back to the original post and the original creator.
Sharing to Your Own Story From the same share sheet, tap Add to Story to repost the content as part of your own Story. Depending on the post's visibility settings, this either embeds the original post in a frame that credits the original creator, or, if the creator has restricted resharing, the option won't be available. Your followers can tap the embedded post to visit the original directly.
What happens when someone without a Whistlr account opens a shared link depends on the post's audience setting. Public posts open in a simplified web preview showing the image or video, caption, and creator's profile name, along with a prompt to download the app or sign up to see more, reply, or follow. If the post was shared only with In Circle members or a custom list, the link will instead show a notice that the content is private and prompt the visitor to log in with an account that has access.
  • Share to App: Sends the post, a preview image, and a link to another app on your device, such as a messaging or email app
  • Copy Link: Saves the post's direct web address to your clipboard for pasting anywhere
  • Send To: Delivers the post directly to a person or group inside Whistlr through Replyd
  • Add to Story: Reposts the content to your own Story with credit back to the original creator
  • Recipient Without an Account: Sees a web preview of public posts with a prompt to join Whistlr, or a private notice if the post's audience is restricted
Keep in mind that sharing respects the original poster's audience choice at all times. If a post was shared with In Circle only or a custom list, copying its link doesn't unlock it for outside viewers — they'll need their own access on Whistlr to see it, even if they have the link in hand.
