Downloading a Copy of Your Whistlr Data
Your Whistlr account holds a record of years of conversations, posts, and connections, and you have the right to a personal copy of it whenever you want one. Whistlr makes it possible to request a complete export of your account information directly from settings, no matter your reason — peace of mind, a personal archive, or preparation before deactivating or deleting your account. Here's how the request works, what it generally includes, and what to expect once you've submitted one.
Requesting Your Data Export
Go to Settings > Privacy > Download Your Information to start a request. You'll be asked to confirm your identity, typically by re-entering your password, before the request is submitted. Once confirmed, Whistlr begins preparing your file in the background — you don't need to keep the app open or stay logged in while it's being put together. When it's ready, you'll get a notification and an email letting you know it's available to download.
Putting together a full account export takes some time because it involves gathering everything tied to your account into one organized package. Most requests are ready within a day or two, though it can occasionally take a bit longer depending on how much history is associated with your account. If it's been significantly longer than usual without any update, checking back in Settings > Privacy > Download Your Information will show the current status of your request.
What's Generally Included in Your Download
Your export is organized to be easy to browse on your own device. It generally includes your posts and any media you've shared, your direct messages and group conversations, your profile information such as your name, bio, and account details, your list of followers and the accounts you follow, and a record of your activity and preferences within the app. The exact organization may vary, but the goal is the same: a complete, readable copy of your presence on Whistlr.
- Profile information: Your display name, username, bio, profile photo, and basic account settings.
- Content you've shared: Posts, photos, videos, and comments you've posted across the app.
- Conversations: Your direct messages and group chat history.
- Connections: Your followers, the accounts you follow, and any close friends or favorites lists you've created.
- Activity history: A general record of your account activity and preferences, organized for easy reference.
The information that makes up your social presence belongs to you, and getting a copy of it should be as simple as asking for one.
Why People Request a Copy of Their Data: Some people simply want a personal archive of memories, conversations, and milestones shared over the years. Others request a copy before deactivating or deleting their account, so they have a record even after stepping away. Some want to move important conversations or photos somewhere else for safekeeping, while others are simply curious what their account history looks like all in one place. Whatever the reason, the process is the same and available to everyone.
Keeping Your Download Safe: Once you've downloaded your file, treat it the way you'd treat any personal document — it contains private details about your account and conversations. Store it somewhere secure, such as an encrypted drive or a password-protected folder, and avoid sending it over channels you wouldn't trust with sensitive information. Download links are only available for a limited time after your request is ready, so save your copy promptly once it arrives.
