Recovering a Locked or Compromised Account
Finding yourself locked out of your Whistlr account, or noticing activity you don't recognize, can be unsettling — but there are clear, immediate steps you can take to regain control. This article covers what to do if you suspect someone else has accessed your account, and what to do if you can't sign in at all.
If You Can Still Sign In
If you still have access to your account but notice something unfamiliar — posts you didn't make, messages you didn't send, or settings you didn't change — act right away. Go to Settings > Account > Password and change your password immediately. Then go to Settings > Security > Active Sessions and sign out of every session you don't recognize, which immediately cuts off access for anyone else who may be signed in. Take a moment to review your recent activity, including your posts, messages, and profile information, for anything that looks unfamiliar, and correct or remove it as needed.
Changing your password and signing out of other sessions together are the two most effective actions you can take, because they address both how someone got in and any ongoing access they might still have. Doing both right away, rather than just one, gives you the most complete protection.
If You Can't Sign In At All
If your password no longer works or your account appears to have been taken over, start with the "Forgot password?" link on the sign-in screen to attempt a reset using your email or phone number on file. If that doesn't work — for example, if the contact information on the account has been changed — contact Whistlr support directly through the Help Center. Support can help verify that the account belongs to you and walk you through safely restoring your access.
When you reach out to support about a locked or compromised account, be ready to describe what you've noticed and roughly when you last had normal access. The more detail you can provide, the faster support can help confirm your identity and get you back into your account.
- Change your password right away: If you still have access, this is the single most important step — do it before anything else.
- Sign out of unfamiliar sessions: Use Settings > Security > Active Sessions to end access on any device you don't recognize.
- Review recent activity: Check your posts, messages, and profile details for anything you didn't do yourself.
- Turn on two-step verification: Once you've regained control, adding a second step to sign-in helps prevent this from happening again.
- Contact support if you're locked out: If you can't get back in on your own, Whistlr support can help verify your identity and restore your access.
The moment you suspect your account has been compromised, speed matters more than anything else — every minute you wait is a minute someone else might still have access to your account.
Recovering an account can feel stressful, but Whistlr's support team handles these situations regularly and is there to help. Once you're back in control, taking a few extra minutes to update your password and enable two-step verification makes it significantly harder for the same thing to happen again.
