Whistlr Studio Viewers and Supporters Rail: Watching, Chatters, and Gems
Track a Whistlr live room in three places: watching on stream meta, the Viewers rail, and—on Business+—the gem feed plus Dashboard revenue. The watching number is the same figure on the title row, the Viewers header, and the Analytics/Help preview overlay. This guide deepens the Viewers and supporters surfaces so you know who spoke, who paid, where Top Supporters actually live, and how to thank people by name without confusing lurkers for chatters. It complements the broader live session Dashboard and chat overview; here the focus is the left rail, room counts, and supporter identity.
Watching, Watch Time, and Stream Meta
Live meta under @username reads “N watching · watch time · category.” Watch time starts with the session—for example 12m, then 1:05 once you pass an hour. Offline it reads “Offline · category.” Friends and Friend Of stay next to your name so relationship context remains visible while you broadcast. The watching count is not a separate analytics product—it is the same presence figure mirrored on the Viewers header and on the floating LIVE + viewers overlay when Analytics or Help shrinks the preview.
Every signed-in creator gets watching, watch time, Live chat, and the Viewers rail. Dashboard Analytics, the Gems rail, session revenue, and payouts stay on Business+. Without Business+, Stream stays on Studio Credentials and the left rail is Viewers only. Non-business lives still feel the room; they simply do not see gem cards or Revenue this stream. That split matters when you compare Help copy that mentions Top Supporters with what Personal chrome actually shows on Stream.
The Viewers Rail: Speakers, Not Lurkers
Open the left rail and choose Viewers. Business+ accounts see Gems | Viewers; everyone else has Viewers only. While live, the header shows “N watching · M in chat,” or “Offline · M in chat” when you are not in a session. The list is people who have spoken this session—text, emoji, or gift—not a silent-lurker roster. Each row shows avatar, name, and either a chat count such as “3 chats” or Watching. Empty state: Waiting for viewers. Rows sort by most recent chat. System lines do not create a row. Watching can be larger than in chat when people view without speaking.
- Who appears: People who sent text, emoji, or a gift this session.
- Who does not: Silent lurkers and system-only lines.
- Header while live: “N watching · M in chat.”
- Header offline: “Offline · M in chat.”
- Row content: Avatar, name, chat count or Watching.
- Sort: Most recent chat first.
- Empty: Waiting for viewers.
- Narrow widths: Rail may slide over—reopen from the header sidebar control.
Watching can outnumber in chat. Presence is not the same as participation—and the Viewers rail is built for participation.
Supporters vs Viewers
A supporter is someone who sends a gem this live. On Stream (Business+) you see them as they send: Gems cards, amber chat lines, and Dashboard revenue. Help’s “Top Supporters—Leaderboard of Gem senders” is the ranked list on the Analytics tab, not a widget inside the Stream Dashboard pane. Call people by name: chatters keep a stable name color and badge on the Live chat rail, and gem senders show on the left with amount and message so you can thank them without guessing who paid. Personal lives still get watching, watch time, chat, and Viewers—not Gems or Dashboard revenue.
- Viewer (watching): Present in the room; may or may not speak.
- Chatter (in chat / Viewers row): Spoke via text, emoji, or gift this session.
- Supporter (this live): Sent a gem during the current broadcast (Business+ surfaces).
- Top Supporters (Analytics): Ranked gem senders for longer-range planning—not Stream Dashboard chrome.
- Lifetime this stream: USD from this live’s gem payments only on Business+ Dashboard.
- Lifetime Gifts / Gems rail: Operator ledger of sends with optional one-tap 👍 ❤️ 🔥 reactions.
Working Gems and Viewers Together Mid-Stream
Stay on Stream. Keep the left rail on Gems when gifts are active so you read amount and message before you talk over a send. Switch to Viewers when you want the speaker list and the watching · in chat header. React on a Gems card for a one-tap thanks; say their name in Live chat if you want the whole room to hear it. Check Dashboard when you want the USD total without scanning cards. On narrow widths the rail is a slide-over—reopen from the header sidebar control, or on Stream (Business+) the dollar control next to End stream.
Each Gems card leads with overlapping avatars (sender on the creator), the sender name, the USD amount, then the message—or “Sent {gem name}” when they left it blank—plus the time. Quantity is on the send; WTC Recent Gifts prints it as × N for the same session. USD on the card matches the cents that roll into Revenue this stream. Empty feed: Waiting for Gems—Support will appear here as it happens. New cards appear at the top. Without Business+, there is no Gems pane; publish gems on WTC before or between sessions so the store is ready when the feed starts after Go Live.
Live Chat Echo vs Operator Ledger
Studio Help may summarize Interactive Chat as Send · Moderate · Reply. The shipped Live chat rail supports send and read only—there is no timeout, hide, delete, or threaded-reply control on the rail. Gift lines are amber room-facing echoes; the left Gems rail is the operator ledger with sender, amount, and message. Text lines show name, badge, and body; emoji-only lines render larger; system lines are signed as Whistlr in italic with the Whistlr mark. Names use a stable color so the same person is easy to track. Thank supporters from the composer—that is the interaction the rail is built for.
- Watching count: Same number on title meta, Viewers header, and Analytics/Help overlay.
- Watch time: Elapsed since session start on the title row.
- In chat: Speakers this session on the Viewers rail header.
- Viewers list: Spoken participants only—text, emoji, or gift.
- Supporters: Gem senders this live on Gems cards, amber chat, and revenue totals (Business+).
- Top Supporters leaderboard: Ranked list on Analytics for after-peak planning.
Chatters keep a stable name color and badge. Gem senders show on the left with amount and message. Thank them by name—that is how the rails are meant to work together.
Where to Look After the Peak
During a hype train, stay on Stream with Gems open and Dashboard one glance away. When the room settles, open Analytics for the ranked Top Supporters list, Supporter Rate, Conversion, and Avg Gem Value so you can plan the next featured gem. Open Earnings → Gem Transaction History when you need the durable row for books. Open WTC → Recent Gifts if you are between sessions and still want the last live’s gift list next to templates. Do not hunt for a lifetime leaderboard inside the Stream Dashboard pane—Help’s Top Supporters wording points at Analytics.
Practical checklist: LIVE pill on; watching and watch time advancing; Viewers header makes sense (watching ≥ in chat); speakers you care about appear as rows; Business+ Gems cards match amber chat echoes; Dashboard revenue agrees with the last few sends; Analytics Top Supporters is for later ranking, not mid-sentence panic.
