Whistlr Live Studio Get Started: Account, Credentials, and First Stream
Whistlr Live Studio is free to use—no subscription and no follower minimum. Create a Whistlr ID, open Creator Live Studio, paste your RTMP credentials into OBS (or any RTMP encoder), confirm the Studio preview, set a title and category, and go live. This guide walks you from a cold account to a public live on whistlr.network in one sitting: what you need before signup, how to create and resume a Whistlr ID, where Studio Credentials live, how Go Live actually publishes the room, and the checklist that separates streaming from optional monetization.
What Whistlr Live Studio Is
The product lives at whistlr.studio. The social network that carries your broadcast is whistlr.network. Both are built by ETAProjects Inc. (ETAPX). Creator Live Studio is the browser desk at /creator-studio—you do not install a separate encoder just to open the desk. You create a Whistlr ID, open Studio, load your Server URL and Stream Key, point OBS, Streamlabs, XSplit, Wirecast, vMix, or any RTMP app at those values, then publish the room with one Go Live action. That same broadcast lands on Flow, Highlights, Following, Discover, your profile, whistlr.network, and the iOS app. You do not configure each surface.
Streaming is unlocked the moment the ID exists. Monetization is a separate, optional track. If you want viewers to send Gems while you are live—and you want those Gems to become cash—you apply for a verified Business+ account at partners.whistlr.business, finish payment setup in Whistlr Go, and publish Gems on the WTC tab. Until then you can still stream for free. There is no follower gate and no monthly Studio fee. You can build an audience on Flow, Highlights, Following, Discover, your profile, whistlr.network, and the iOS app for $0. Gems, live earnings, and withdrawals stay locked until Business+ is verified. That is by design: go live first, apply when the room is worth cashing out.

What You Need Before You Start
A Whistlr ID is the account you use to stream, chat, and later cash out Gems. You must be 18 or older—Whistlr is an adult network, and age verification is part of signup, not an optional later step. You need a working email you can open right now; Studio sends a 6-digit verification code to that address. Use any modern desktop browser. Studio is browser-based, so you open the desk first, then point OBS (or another RTMP app) at Studio after you have credentials. Passwords need at least 6 characters, one capital letter, and one special character.
- Age: You must be 18 or older. Accounts under 18 are blocked at age verification.
- Email: A working address you can open during signup for the 6-digit verification code (check spam if it does not arrive).
- Browser: Any modern desktop browser—Studio runs in the browser; the encoder is separate.
- Password: At least 6 characters, one capital letter, and one special character. Studio shows a strength meter while you set it.
- Encoder (for the stream): OBS, Streamlabs, XSplit, Wirecast, vMix, or any app that supports Custom RTMP. You paste credentials after the ID exists.
Create a Free Whistlr ID
Sign up at /signup. If you already have an ID, sign in at /login. After a finished signup you land in Creator Live Studio—you do not need a separate streamer application just to broadcast. Open /signup and choose Create account. On “Sign up to Whistlr,” enter your full name and email. On “Secure your account,” set a password that meets the capital-letter and special-character rules. On “Age verification,” enter your birthdate as MM/DD/YYYY. On “Review our policies,” confirm you are 18+ and agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, then tap Create Account. If Studio asks you to verify email, enter the 6-digit code sent to your inbox—you can paste the whole code in one shot. Then you drop straight into Creator Live Studio.
Did not finish signup? Use /resume-signup (“Finish Sign Up”) to pick up a half-finished Whistlr ID. Already have one? Sign in at /login—that path is how you return to manage your stream key, go live, and later track Gems and earnings. Signup also links “Create Business Account” in the corner; you can ignore it until you are ready to get paid. Apply for Monetization is on the marketing header at whistlr.studio if you would rather start Business+ from the public site. Streaming itself never waits on that application.

First Launch: Studio Credentials
Creator Live Studio is the browser desk at /creator-studio. The first time it opens, you will see “Setting up your studio…” while it loads your RTMP Server URL and Stream Key. That pair is your Studio Credentials—the same ingest values the iOS / app path uses. You paste them once into any RTMP encoder and Studio starts showing a preview the moment the encoder publishes. If credentials fail to load, tap Try Again. When they land, open the Credentials chip under the preview (next to Dashboard). You should see Server URL, Stream Key, Copy, Show / Hide, Reset Stream Key, and a four-step Quick setup card.
Treat the Stream Key as a secret. Copy it into your encoder; do not paste it into chat, a ticket, or a screenshot. Anyone with your current Stream Key can publish into your studio ingest. If it ever leaks, tap Reset Stream Key and paste the new value into your streaming software. The old key stops working as soon as the reset finishes. You will need the new key before the next session—do not reuse a leaked key.
- Preview: Starts as “Ready when you are.” After the encoder publishes, Studio finds the feed and shows it here.
- Credentials: Server URL + Stream Key. Copy both into OBS, Streamlabs, XSplit, Wirecast, vMix, or any RTMP app.
- Go Live: Opens Stream Information (Title + Category). This is what actually puts you on the network—starting the encoder alone is not enough.

Connect Your Encoder (Custom RTMP)
Copy the Server URL from Credentials. Show the Stream Key, copy it, then Hide it again. In your encoder, set the stream service to Custom (sometimes labeled Custom RTMP). Paste Server URL into the server field and Stream Key into the key field. Use video codec H.264 with profile Main or Baseline. Hit Start Streaming in the encoder. Come back to Studio and wait for the preview—“We found your stream. Just setting up the preview for you.” Studio is listening the moment credentials are ready. If the encoder is running but the preview errors, switch the encoder to H.264 Main or Baseline and start the stream again. When the encoder stops, Studio shows “Stream ended” and reconnects automatically the next time you hit Start Streaming.
Non-business accounts can still stream. You will see a Business+ prompt under Credentials (“Start earning revenue while you stream”) with a short “See how it works” sheet. Streaming stays unlocked. Gems, live earnings, and withdrawals stay locked until partners.whistlr.business verifies you. Use Learn anytime you want the short version of that split. Monetization does not block Connect, preview, or Go Live.
Your First Stream: Two Distinct Actions
Going live is two distinct actions. First the encoder publishes into Studio so you can see yourself. Then you tap Go Live, fill Stream Information, and confirm. Until you confirm, viewers on whistlr.network and the iOS app cannot join—the preview is only for you. That is how you check framing, audio, and the title before the room opens. Do not skip the preview. If you tap Go Live before the encoder is publishing, viewers can land on a dark room. Watch for “Almost there…” then a live picture before you open the room.
Stream Information: Title and Category
Go Live opens a Stream Information sheet. Title is required (up to 100 characters)—the confirm button stays disabled until you type one. Pick a title people can scan in a feed (“Late lo-fi set,” not “test”). Category is a searchable list; if you skip it, Studio uses Just Chatting. Pick the category that matches what is actually on camera. Discovery on Flow, Highlights, Following, and Discover uses that label, and your profile card shows it next to the viewer count. Confirm the Studio preview is receiving—you should see your encoder output, not just “Ready when you are.” Tap Go Live, enter title and category, then tap Go Live again on the sheet. Studio starts the session and the same broadcast lands platform-wide.

While you are live, the meta line under your name shows viewer count, watch time, and category. Chat, viewer count, and (if Business+ is verified) the Gems rail all attach to that session. You are not running six destinations—you are running one Studio session the network already knows how to surface. Tap End stream when you are done—Studio warns that viewers lose the live and cannot rejoin until you go live again. Confirm only when you mean it. You can stream around the clock; there is no session cap and no follower minimum to stay on.
Gems on This Stream (Optional)
Viewers send Gems while you are live, not after. Cash out typically hits your bank in 1–2 business days with no 30-day hold. That path requires a verified Business+ account. Publishing Gems also needs payment setup in Whistlr Go. If you have not applied yet, the stream still runs—the room just cannot pay you until Business+ and Whistlr Go are done. Optional next session after your first public live: apply for Business+ at partners.whistlr.business (or Apply for Monetization in the header), finish payment setup in Whistlr Go, and publish at least one Gem on the WTC tab—pick a template, rename it, set a price, Publish.
Going live is two actions: encoder into Studio so you can see yourself, then Go Live so the network can. Starting the encoder alone never opens the room.
Quickstart Tutorial: Cold ID to Public Live
Goal: a cold Whistlr ID to a public live on whistlr.network in one sitting. You need the ID, an RTMP encoder, and a title. Everything else—Business+, Gems, custom Gem names—can wait until the second session. Create the Whistlr ID at /signup (or sign in at /login). Open Creator Live Studio. Copy Studio Credentials. In OBS, Streamlabs, XSplit, Wirecast, or vMix, set the service to Custom and paste both values. Start the encoder, then wait until the Studio preview is receiving. That is the Connect step from the in-studio guide. Do not skip the preview—watch for “Almost there…” then a live picture. Set Title and Category in Stream Information; keep the title under 100 characters and specific enough that someone scrolling Flow knows what they are joining. Confirm Go Live. One action distributes the same broadcast platform-wide: Flow, Highlights, Following, Discover, your profile, whistlr.network, and the iOS app.

You are ready when the encoder is publishing, the title is set, and Go Live is clickable. Everything after that—Gems, custom branding, payouts in one to two business days—is growth, not a gate. A verified Business+ account unlocks Gems, live earnings, and withdrawals inside Studio. Viewers send Gems while you are live. You keep the revenue. Cash out whenever you want—funds typically arrive in 1–2 business days, with no 30-day hold and no net-30 delay. Until that account is verified, keep streaming. Troubleshooting the First Session
Credentials fail to load: tap Try Again on the setup state until Server URL and Stream Key appear. Stream Key leaked or shared by accident: Reset Stream Key in Credentials and update the encoder immediately—the old key stops working when the reset finishes. Preview stuck or errors while the encoder runs: use H.264 Main or Baseline and restart the stream; Studio reconnects when you start streaming again after “Stream ended.” Go Live disabled: enter a title (up to 100 characters)—the confirm button stays off until Title is set. Dark room for viewers: confirm the Studio preview was receiving before you confirmed Go Live. Gems rail missing or no cash out: streaming is still unlocked; complete Business+ verification and Whistlr Go payment setup, then publish Gems on the WTC tab.
