Whistlr Studio Quickstart and Setup Checklist: Cold ID to Live
Goal: take a cold Whistlr ID to a public live on whistlr.network in one sitting. You need the ID, an RTMP encoder, and a title. Everything else—Business+, Gems, custom Gem names—can wait until the second session. This guide combines the Quickstart tutorial and the Setup checklist from Creator Live Studio: Connect, Stream, Go Live everywhere, required versus optional rows, and the preflight you should run before you tell anyone you are live. Streaming is free, 18+, and has no follower minimum.
Quickstart at a Glance
Create the Whistlr ID at /signup (or sign in at /login). Open Creator Live Studio. Copy Studio Credentials. In OBS, Streamlabs, XSplit, Wirecast, or vMix, set the service to Custom and paste both values. Start the encoder, then wait until the Studio preview is receiving. Set Title and Category in Stream Information. Confirm Go Live. One action distributes the same broadcast platform-wide: Flow, Highlights, Following, Discover, your profile, whistlr.network, and the iOS app. You are not running six destinations—you are running one Studio session the network already knows how to surface.
You are ready when the preview is up and Go Live is enabled. If the encoder is publishing, the title is set, and Go Live is clickable, you can stream free on Whistlr Live Studio.
1. Connect
Create the Whistlr ID and open Creator Live Studio. Copy Server URL and Stream Key from Credentials under the preview. In your encoder, choose Custom (Custom RTMP). Paste Server URL into the server field and Stream Key into the key field. Use video codec H.264 with profile Main or Baseline. Hit Start Streaming, then return to Studio and wait until the center preview is receiving—not only the encoder’s local output. That is the Connect step from the in-studio guide. Do not skip the preview. If you tap Go Live before the encoder is publishing, viewers can land on a dark room. Watch for “Almost there…” then a live picture.
Encoder paste shape: Service Custom; Server from Studio Credentials; Stream Key from Studio Credentials; Video codec H.264 with Main or Baseline. Studio listens as soon as credentials are ready. If the preview errors while the encoder runs, switch to H.264 Main or Baseline and start again. When the encoder stops, Studio shows “Stream ended” and reconnects on the next Start Streaming.
2. Stream — Title and Category Before Confirm
Going live is two distinct actions. First the encoder publishes into Studio so you can see yourself. Then you tap Go Live, fill Stream Information, and confirm. Until you confirm, viewers on whistlr.network and the iOS app cannot join—the preview is only for you. Title is required (up to 100 characters); the confirm button stays disabled until you type one. Pick a title people can scan in a feed (“Late lo-fi set,” not “test”). Category is a searchable list; if you skip it, Studio uses Just Chatting. Pick the category that matches what is actually on camera—discovery on Flow, Highlights, Following, and Discover uses that label, and your profile card shows it next to the viewer count.
3. Go Live Everywhere
Confirm Go Live on the Stream Information sheet. Studio starts the session and the same broadcast lands on Flow, Highlights, Following, Discover, your profile, whistlr.network, and the iOS app. Chat, viewer count, and (if Business+ is verified) the Gems rail all attach to that session. Tap End stream when you are done—Studio warns that viewers lose the live and cannot rejoin until you go live again. Confirm only when you mean it. You can stream around the clock; there is no session cap and no follower minimum to stay on.
- 1. Whistlr ID: Created and email-verified (or signed in if you already have one). Must be 18+.
- 2. Studio Credentials: Server URL and Stream Key copied from Credentials under the preview.
- 3. Encoder: Custom RTMP with both values pasted; H.264 Main or Baseline; Start Streaming.
- 4. Preview: Studio center preview receiving—not only the encoder’s local output.
- 5. Stream Information: Title (required, ≤100 characters) and Category (defaults to Just Chatting if skipped).
- 6. Go Live: Confirm on the sheet so the room opens on the network.
- 7. Optional later: Business+ at partners.whistlr.business, Whistlr Go payment setup, publish Gems on the WTC tab.
Setup Checklist: Required vs Optional
Use this as the preflight before you tell anyone you are live. Required rows get you on whistlr.network. Optional rows unlock Gems and withdrawals. Streaming never waits on the optional column. Everything after a working preview and an enabled Go Live—Gems, custom branding, payouts in one to two business days—is growth, not a gate. Come back to this checklist the first time a viewer asks how to send support.
- Create a free Whistlr ID (18+): Required to go live. /signup, then /login to return.
- Open Creator Live Studio: Required. /creator-studio after auth.
- Copy Server URL + Stream Key: Required. Credentials under the preview.
- Point an RTMP encoder at Custom: Required. OBS, Streamlabs, XSplit, Wirecast, or vMix.
- Confirm Studio preview is receiving: Required. Center preview—not just the encoder output.
- Set Title (≤100) + Category: Required for publish. Go Live → Stream Information; Go Live stays disabled until the title is set.
- Tap Go Live to publish the room: Required. Same sheet after title and category.
- Apply for Business+: Not required to stream—only to earn. partners.whistlr.business, or Apply for Monetization in the header.
- Payment setup in Whistlr Go: Not required to stream—only to publish Gems. Studio will tell you if this is missing.
- Publish at least one Gem: Not required to stream—only to get paid this session. WTC tab → template, rename, price, Publish.
A verified Business+ account unlocks Gems, live earnings, and withdrawals inside Studio. Viewers send Gems while you are live, not after. You keep the revenue. Cash out whenever you want—funds typically arrive in 1–2 business days, with no 30-day hold and no net-30 delay. Until that account is verified, keep streaming. The Learn button and the Business+ “See how it works” sheet are the in-product versions of this split. Publishing Gems also needs payment setup in Whistlr Go. If you have not applied yet, the stream still runs—the room just cannot pay you until Business+ and Whistlr Go are done.

Stay in Help While You Learn
The Creator Live Studio Guide in the Help tab is the same workflow written next to your live credentials: Stream ingest, Encoder setup, Quick start, WTC Gems, Earnings, Live dashboard. Use it when you are mid-setup instead of bouncing away from the desk. The Learn button is the short product story: one Go Live, every Whistlr screen, and when Business+ matters. - Credentials fail to load: Tap Try Again until Server URL and Stream Key appear.
- Stream Key leaked: Reset in Credentials and update the encoder—the old key stops working when reset finishes.
- Preview errors while encoding: H.264 Main or Baseline, then restart the stream.
- Go Live disabled: Enter a title up to 100 characters—confirm stays off until Title is set.
- Dark room for viewers: Confirm Studio preview was receiving before you confirmed Go Live.
- No Gems rail / no cash out: Streaming is still unlocked; finish Business+ and Whistlr Go, then publish Gems on WTC.

Run the checklist once before your first public announcement. Required: free 18+ Whistlr ID, Creator Live Studio open, credentials in a Custom RTMP encoder, Studio preview receiving, title and category set, Go Live confirmed. Optional for earnings only: Business+ verification, Whistlr Go payment setup, at least one published Gem. There is no subscription and no follower gate on any required row. When the preview is up and Go Live is enabled, you are cleared to stream free on Whistlr Live Studio—then grow into monetization when the room is worth cashing out.
