Whistlr Studio Session Health and Preview: LIVE Pill, Ingest, End Stream
Session health in Whistlr Creator Studio is whether the live is on, whether preview is receiving, how long you have been up, and how you leave cleanly. There is no separate status console—the header LIVE pill, stream meta, Dashboard Ingest / Preview, and the preview overlay cover it. This guide deepens those signals so you can tell a catch-up delay from a dead encode, keep a calm mid-stream glance, and End stream only when you intend to take the public live down. It complements the broader live session, chat, and Dashboard overview; here the focus is health, preview placement, and ending cleanly.
What “Healthy” Looks Like While Live
A healthy mid-stream glance is short: LIVE pill on (red, pulsing); preview Receiving, or the large player clearly moving; watching and watch time advancing on the title row; chat composer enabled. On Business+, keep the Gems rail open and confirm Dashboard revenue matches what just landed. Then get back on camera. That five-second scan separates a calm operator session from reactive panic when chat, gifts, and encoder status all move at once.
The Stream tab is the cockpit once you are live. The preview stays on screen as the hero on Stream and Viewers. A red LIVE pill sits in the header only while live. Visit Stream appears in the header only while you are live and the stream is surfaced. Watch time starts with the session—for example 12m, then 1:05 once you pass an hour. Offline meta reads “Offline · category.” Friends and Friend Of stay next to your name. Business+ accounts can switch the center pane with Dashboard and Credentials chips; without Business+, Stream stays on Studio Credentials and monetization panes stay locked—but every signed-in creator can still stream and read health from pill, meta, and preview.
Preview Placement by Tab
Preview stays the hero on Stream and Viewers so you can operate the broadcast. On Analytics and Help, the preview shrinks to a floating player with a LIVE + viewer overlay so charts and help copy stay readable. On WTC and Earnings, the hero preview is hidden so wallet and payout work stay focused. Knowing where the player goes prevents false alarms: leaving Stream for Earnings does not mean the public live ended—it means Studio hid the hero so you can read the ledger.
- Header LIVE pill: Red, pulsing, only while live.
- N watching: Same count on the title row, Viewers header, and Analytics/Help overlay.
- Watch time: Elapsed since session start on the title row.
- Visit Stream: Public page link—only while live and surfaced.
- Stream / Viewers: Hero preview stays large.
- Analytics / Help: Floating player with LIVE + viewers.
- WTC / Earnings: Hero preview hidden on purpose.
Status Copy on Preview and Dashboard
Studio speaks in short sentences on the player and on the Business+ Dashboard Analytics pane. Ready when you are means you are not publishing yet—start the encoder, then Go Live if needed. Almost there… means Studio found the stream and is opening preview. You're live! means preview is receiving—keep going. Hang tight, we’re working on it means ingest is in but preview needs a moment; prefer H.264 Main or Baseline if it sticks. Stream ended means the encoder stopped—start it again and Studio reconnects. Dashboard Ingest reads idle, publishing, or ended. Preview reads Receiving when the player has the live, otherwise Waiting.
- Ready when you are: No publish yet—start encoder, then Go Live if needed.
- Almost there…: Studio found the stream and is opening preview.
- You're live!: Preview is receiving—continue the show.
- Hang tight, we’re working on it: Ingest in; preview catching up—try H.264 Main or Baseline if stuck.
- Stream ended: Encoder stopped—restart and Studio reconnects.
- Ingest: idle / publishing / ended: Waiting, sending, or stopped on Dashboard.
- Preview: Receiving / Waiting: Receiving means the player has the live.
Preview trouble is not always a dead live. If the LIVE pill is on and watching is moving, the room can still be up while studio preview catches up.
Diagnose Before You Tear Down the Encoder
Check Ingest (publishing vs ended) before you stop OBS or another RTMP app. Only End stream when you intend to take the public live down. Many “broken preview” moments are catch-up delays, not offline events. Prefer stable encoder settings—CBR, two-second keyframe, H.264 Main or Baseline—if preview repeatedly hangs after ingest shows publishing. Do not confuse a private preview stall with a confirmed End stream. Watching count and the LIVE pill are stronger public-health signals than a momentarily Waiting preview alone.
Dashboard Broadcast always reads Creator Studio with your username and category while you are on the Business+ Analytics pane. Revenue this stream is this live’s gem payments only—not lifetime Totals from the Earnings tab. Use Dashboard when you want USD, gem count, Ingest, and Preview without scanning every Gems card. Use Credentials mid-session only if the encoder drops and you must re-copy Server URL or Stream Key. The title still reads Untitled stream if you left it empty; clicking it opens Stream Information only when you are offline—you do not retitle from that click during the live.
End Stream: Confirmed, Clean, Irreversible for That Session
End stream sits on the meta row while you are live. It does not drop you immediately. Click End stream. Read “End stream?”—This takes you offline right now. Viewers will lose the live and cannot rejoin until you go live again. Cancel, press Escape, or click the backdrop to stay live. Confirm with the red End stream control to go offline. After you confirm, the LIVE pill and Visit Stream go away, watching resets, chat clears, the gem feed waits for the next live, and the preview returns to the offline overlay. You need a new Go Live before viewers can come back.
- Step 1: Click End stream on the meta row.
- Step 2: Read the confirmation that viewers lose the live immediately.
- Step 3: Cancel, Escape, or backdrop click to stay live.
- Step 4: Confirm red End stream to go offline.
- After confirm: LIVE pill and Visit Stream gone; watching reset; chat cleared; gem feed waiting; offline overlay returns.
- To return: New Go Live required before viewers can rejoin.
Practical Session Rhythm for Health
Open Live chat when you want to answer the room; leave it closed if the overlay steals preview on a small screen. Toggle Gems when gifts are active; switch to Viewers when you care who spoke. Flip Dashboard when you need USD and ingest without reading every card. Use Credentials only if the encoder drops. End stream only when you are done—not when preview alone looks stalled. That rhythm keeps the Stream workspace from becoming noise while the public live stays healthy.
A healthy live is simple to read: LIVE on, preview Receiving, watching and watch time moving, chat open, and—on Business+—gems and revenue agreeing. Everything else is performance.
Related Studio topics: first-time Go Live and OBS RTMP credentials happen before the pill turns red; encoder bitrate and key hygiene keep preview Receiving; live chat, Viewers, and Gems rails cover room operation; Earnings and WTC cover wallet history after you leave Stream. Session health is the bridge between those worlds—read the pill, the meta, Ingest, Preview, and status copy before you change anything irreversible. Protect the public live first; then fix the private preview; then End stream only when the show is over.
