Whistlr Studio Live Session: Dashboard, Chat, Viewers, and Session Health
Once you are live in Whistlr Creator Studio, the Stream tab is your cockpit for the entire broadcast. This guide covers what you do while the session is running: the live Dashboard, Live chat, the Viewers and Gems rails, session health signals, and how to end the stream cleanly. It is about operating the live itself—not first-time Go Live setup.
The Stream workspace keeps your preview on screen with a red LIVE pill in the header. Stream meta under your title shows watching count, watch time, and category. Live chat is the dedicated right rail, opened from the header chat toggle. Business+ accounts can switch the center pane between Dashboard and Credentials chips under the title, and gain the left Gems rail plus session revenue. Without Business+, Stream stays on Studio Credentials and the left rail is Viewers only. Every signed-in creator can stream; Dashboard Analytics, the Gems rail, session revenue, and payouts remain Business+.
Live Dashboard While You Stream
The center Dashboard pane is labeled Analytics. Its hero number is Revenue this stream—USD from this live’s gem payments only, not lifetime totals. Broadcast always reads Creator Studio with your username and category. Ingest reports idle, publishing, or ended, plus a short preview status sentence. Preview is Receiving when the player has the live, otherwise Waiting. Use Dashboard when you want the running USD total and pipeline state without scanning individual gift cards.
- Dashboard (Business+): Session Analytics—Revenue this stream (USD), gems received, Broadcast, Ingest, and Preview state.
- Chat: Right rail labeled Live chat. Not a second center page; the header toggle opens or closes it.
- Credentials: Server URL, Stream Key (Show / Hide / Copy), Reset Stream Key, and encoder recap if you must re-paste mid-session. Available to everyone.
- Hero preview and meta: Title, @username, badge, Friends / Friend Of, watching · watch time · category, and End stream.
- Gems rail (Business+): This session’s sends as they land, with sender, amount, and message.
- Viewers rail (everyone): Watching count plus people who have spoken this session.
Stream Surfaces at a Glance
Dashboard is Business+ only and focuses on revenue and ingest health. Credentials are available to every creator for Server URL, Stream Key, Reset, and quick encoder steps. The Live chat rail is for everyone: room lines plus Send a message while live. The Gems rail is Business+ only. The Viewers rail is for everyone. Help in the studio may list viewer count, top supporters, and Interactive Chat (Send · Moderate · Reply). In product, viewer count lives on stream meta, the Viewers rail, and the floating preview overlay; the ranked Top Supporters list is on the Analytics tab, not the Stream Dashboard pane; chat on the rail is send-and-read—there are no moderate or reply controls there.
Title, Visit Stream, and Preview Placement
The title reads Untitled stream if you left it empty. Clicking the title opens Stream Information only when you are offline—you do not retitle from that click during the live. When the live is surfaced, Visit Stream in the header opens the public page. On Stream and Viewers, the hero preview stays large. On Analytics and Help, the preview shrinks to a floating player with a LIVE + viewer overlay. On WTC and Earnings, the hero preview is hidden so those tabs stay focused on wallet and payout work.
The Stream tab is the broadcast itself: preview, LIVE pill, chat rail, and—on Business+—session revenue and gems. Everything else in Creator Studio supports the live; this workspace is the live.
Live Chat in Creator Studio
Live chat is the right-hand rail on the Stream workspace. Open or close it from the header panel control. On smaller widths it overlays the preview—dismiss with the rail close control or the dimmed backdrop. Dashboard never replaces this rail; Analytics and chat stay separate surfaces so you can watch revenue while still reading the room.
Offline, the composer is disabled with Go live to chat, and an empty rail says Chat is offline. After Go Live, the rail becomes Welcome to live chat—Messages from your room will float up here—and the field reads Send a message. You type up to 200 characters, then press Enter or the send control. Empty sends do nothing. Your line appears with your avatar and username so the room sees you the same way viewers do.
How to Send a Chat Line While Live
Confirm the LIVE pill is on and the composer is enabled. Type your message (maximum 200 characters). Press Enter or use the send control. Your line posts with your avatar and username. Keep the rail pinned to the latest messages unless you scroll up to review earlier lines—the rail holds the latest stretch of the room and sticks to the bottom by default.
- Text: Standard chat line with name, optional badge, and body.
- Emoji: Emoji-only lines render larger for emphasis.
- Gift: Amber highlight when a gem is announced in chat—the room-facing echo of a send.
- System: Signed as Whistlr, italic, with the Whistlr mark instead of a user photo.
- Avatars and colors: Photo, colored initial, or system mark; usernames use a stable color so the same person is easy to track across the session.
- Badges: Verified and business accounts keep their badge next to the name.
What Chat Does—and Does Not Do
Studio Help may summarize chat as Send · Moderate · Reply. The shipped Live chat rail supports send and read only. There is no timeout, hide, delete, or threaded-reply control on the rail. Gift lines are the public echo; the left Gems rail is the operator ledger with sender, amount, and message. Thank people by name from the composer—that is the interaction the rail is built for. For moderation workflows outside this rail, use your normal account safety tools and community practices; do not expect in-rail timeout or delete controls during the live.
Send is what the rail does. Read the room, answer in public chat, and keep gift acknowledgements either as one-tap reactions on Gems cards or as a spoken thank-you in chat.
Viewers and Supporters During a Live
Track the room in three places: watching on stream meta, the Viewers rail, and—on Business+—the gem feed plus Dashboard revenue. The watching number is the same figure on the title row, the Viewers header, and the Analytics/Help preview overlay. Live meta under @username reads “N watching · watch time · category.” Watch time starts with the session—for example 12m, then 1:05 once you pass an hour. Offline it reads “Offline · category.” Friends and Friend Of stay next to your name so relationship context remains visible while you broadcast.
The Viewers Rail
Open the left rail and choose Viewers. Business+ accounts see Gems | Viewers; everyone else has Viewers only. While live, the header shows “N watching · M in chat,” or “Offline · M in chat” when you are not in a session. The list is people who have spoken this session—text, emoji, or gift—not a silent-lurker roster. Each row shows avatar, name, and either “3 chats” (or similar) or Watching. Empty state: Waiting for viewers. Rows sort by most recent chat. System lines do not create a row. Watching can be larger than in chat when people view without speaking.
Supporters vs. Viewers
A supporter is someone who sends a gem this live. On Stream you see them as they send: Gems cards, amber chat lines, and Dashboard revenue. Help’s “Top Supporters—Leaderboard of Gem senders” is the ranked list on the Analytics tab, not a widget inside the Stream Dashboard pane. Non-business lives still get watching, watch time, chat, and Viewers—not Gems or Dashboard revenue. Call people by name: chatters keep a stable name color and badge, and gem senders show on the left with amount and message so you can thank them without guessing who paid.
- Watching count: Same number on title meta, Viewers header, and Analytics/Help overlay.
- Watch time: Elapsed since session start on the title row.
- In chat: Speakers this session on the Viewers rail header.
- Viewers list: Spoken participants only—text, emoji, or gift; not lurkers.
- Supporters: Gem senders this live, visible on Gems cards, amber chat, and revenue totals (Business+).
- Top Supporters leaderboard: Ranked list on Analytics, not inside Stream Dashboard.
Gem Feed During a Live Session
On Business+, the left rail on Stream is Live Gems with the caption Real-time activity. This feed is this live only—it fills after you go live and waits empty when you are not in a session. It is the operator view of how viewers pay you during the broadcast. Without Business+, there is no Gems pane; viewers can still watch and chat. Publish gems on WTC before or between sessions so the store is ready when this feed starts. On narrow widths the rail is a slide-over—reopen from the header sidebar control, or on Stream (Business+) the dollar control next to End stream.
What Each Send Carries
Every live send includes a sender, a quantity, an optional message, and an amount. The left-rail card leads with overlapping avatars (sender on the creator), the sender name, the USD amount, then the message—or “Sent {gem name}” when they left it blank—plus the time. Quantity is on the send; the WTC Recent Gifts list prints it as × N for the same session. USD on the card matches the cents that roll into Revenue this stream. Until you react, each card offers thumbs-up, heart, and fire. Tap one; the buttons go away and that emoji stays. That is acknowledgement, not a chat thread. Empty feed: Waiting for Gems—Support will appear here as it happens. New cards appear at the top. Dashboard revenue and gems-received are this list’s running total.
Working the Gems Rail Mid-Stream
Stay on Stream with the left rail on Gems. Read amount and message before you talk over a send so you do not miss a note. React on the card for a one-tap thanks; say their name in Live chat if you want the whole room to hear it. Check Dashboard when you want the USD total without scanning cards. Keep the rail open on busy gift nights so you never lose the next send under the preview or chat overlay.
- Sender + avatar: Who paid—shown with overlapping avatars on the card.
- USD amount: What they paid; same cents as Revenue this stream.
- Message or “Sent {gem}”: Their note, or the gem name when the note is blank.
- Time: When the send landed in this session.
- 👍 ❤️ 🔥: Optional one-tap reaction from you; one choice, then the buttons clear.
- Business+ only: No Gems pane without Business+; chat and watching still work for every streamer.
Gems cards are your ledger; amber chat lines are the room’s applause. React on the card, thank them in chat, then glance at Dashboard revenue to confirm the total matches what just landed.
Session Health, Preview, and Status Copy
Session health is whether the live is on, whether preview is receiving, how long you have been up, and how you leave cleanly. There is no separate status console—the header pill, stream meta, Dashboard Ingest / Preview, and the preview overlay cover it. The header LIVE pill is red and pulsing only while live. Visit Stream appears only while you are live and the stream is surfaced. Preview stays the hero on Stream and Viewers; Analytics and Help float it with LIVE + viewers; WTC and Earnings hide it.
- Ready when you are: Not publishing yet—start the encoder, then Go Live if needed.
- Almost there…: Studio found the stream and is opening preview.
- You're live!: Preview is receiving—keep going.
- Hang tight, we’re working on it: Ingest is in; preview needs a moment. Prefer H.264 Main or Baseline if it sticks.
- Stream ended: Encoder stopped—start it again and Studio reconnects.
- Ingest: idle / publishing / ended: Dashboard value for waiting, sending, or stopped.
- Preview: Receiving / Waiting: Receiving means the player has the live.
Preview Trouble Is Not Always a Dead Live
If the LIVE pill is on and watching is moving, the room can still be up while studio preview catches up. Check Ingest (publishing vs ended) before you tear down the encoder. Only End stream when you intend to take the public live down. Many “broken preview” moments are catch-up delays, not offline events. Prefer stable encoder settings if preview repeatedly hangs after ingest shows publishing.
How to End Stream Cleanly
End stream sits on the meta row while you are live. It does not drop you immediately. Click End stream. Read the confirmation: “End stream?”—This takes you offline right now. Viewers will lose the live and cannot rejoin until you go live again. Cancel, press Escape, or click the backdrop to stay live. Confirm with the red End stream control to go offline. After you confirm, the LIVE pill and Visit Stream go away, watching resets, chat clears, the gem feed waits for the next live, and the preview returns to the offline overlay. You need a new Go Live before viewers can come back.
A Healthy Mid-Stream Glance
Before you look back at camera, run a quick checklist: LIVE pill on; preview Receiving (or the large player clearly moving); watching and watch time advancing; chat composer enabled. On Business+, keep the Gems rail open and confirm Dashboard revenue matches what just landed. Then return to the performance. That five-second scan separates a calm operator session from reactive panic when chat, gifts, and encoder status all move at once.

Use your Studio Credentials and Go Live flow before the LIVE pill appears; use this guide after it does. For wallet history, gem store setup, and payouts, leave Stream for WTC and Earnings—those tabs hide the hero preview on purpose. For ranked supporter leaderboards after or between peaks, open Analytics rather than hunting for a leaderboard inside the Stream Dashboard pane. Practical Session Rhythm
Open Live chat when you want to answer the room; leave it closed if the overlay steals preview on a small screen. Toggle Gems when gifts are active; switch to Viewers when you care who spoke. Flip Dashboard when you need USD and ingest without reading every card. Use Credentials only if the encoder drops and you must re-copy Server URL or Stream Key. End stream only when you are done—not when preview alone looks stalled. That rhythm keeps the Stream workspace from becoming noise while the public live stays healthy.
