Whistlr Studio First Launch: Server URL, Stream Key, and Preview
Creator Live Studio is the browser desk at /creator-studio. The first time it opens, you will see “Setting up your studio…” while it loads your RTMP Server URL and Stream Key. That pair is your Studio Credentials—the same ingest values the iOS and app path uses. Paste them once into any RTMP encoder and Studio starts showing a private preview the moment the encoder publishes. This guide covers first-launch surfaces, how to copy and protect the Stream Key, Custom RTMP connection steps, preview states, resets when a key leaks, and why Business+ prompts never block streaming.
What You See on First Open
After authentication, Creator Live Studio provisions credentials for your Whistlr ID. If credentials fail to load, tap Try Again. When they land, open the Credentials chip under the preview (next to Dashboard). You should see Server URL, Stream Key, Copy, Show / Hide, Reset Stream Key, and a four-step Quick setup card. Preview starts as “Ready when you are.” Go Live opens Stream Information—that confirm action is what actually puts you on the network; starting the encoder alone is not enough. - Credentials: Server URL + Stream Key. Copy both into OBS, Streamlabs, XSplit, Wirecast, vMix, or any RTMP app.

Treat the Stream Key as a secret. Copy it into your encoder; do not paste it into chat, a ticket, or a screenshot.
Connect Your Encoder (Custom RTMP)
Copy the Server URL from Credentials. Show the Stream Key, copy it, then Hide it again. In your encoder, set the stream service to Custom (sometimes labeled Custom RTMP). Paste Server URL into the server field and Stream Key into the key field. Use video codec H.264 with profile Main or Baseline. Hit Start Streaming in the encoder. Come back to Studio and wait for the preview—“We found your stream. Just setting up the preview for you.” Studio is listening the moment credentials are ready. When the encoder stops, Studio shows “Stream ended” and reconnects automatically the next time you hit Start Streaming.
Service should read Custom. Server is your Studio Server URL. Stream Key is your Studio Stream Key. Video codec H.264 with Main or Baseline profile keeps the preview reliable. You do not install a separate Whistlr encoder plugin—any app that speaks Custom RTMP works: OBS, Streamlabs, XSplit, Wirecast, and vMix are the common choices called out in Studio’s own Quick setup card.
Protect and Reset the Stream Key
Anyone with your current Stream Key can publish into your studio ingest. If you shared it by accident, or it appeared in a screenshot, ticket, or chat, tap Reset Stream Key in Credentials and paste the new value into your streaming software. The old key stops working as soon as the reset finishes. You will need the new key before the next session—do not reuse a leaked key. Keep Show used only while copying; Hide again when you are done so the key is not left visible on a shared screen.
Safe Copy Habits
Copy Server URL first—it is safe to keep in an encoder profile. On Stream Key, tap Show only when you are about to paste. Tap Copy, paste only into the encoder’s stream-key field, then Hide. Never put the key in a stream title, Discord message, support ticket body, shared note, or screen recording. If Credentials still shows Unavailable or the setup spinner, wait or tap Try Again until Server URL and Stream Key appear with a Ready state before you configure OBS.

Preview States on First Launch
Ready when you are means Studio has credentials but has not seen a publish yet. Almost there… / “We found your stream…” means Studio detected the encode and is wiring the player. A live picture in the center preview means you can check framing and audio privately—viewers still cannot join until you confirm Go Live. If the encoder is running but the preview errors, switch the encoder to H.264 Main or Baseline and start the stream again. Stream ended appears when the encoder stops; Studio listens again on the next Start Streaming.
Non-business accounts can still stream. You will see a Business+ prompt under Credentials (“Start earning revenue while you stream”) with a short “See how it works” sheet. Streaming stays unlocked. Gems, live earnings, and withdrawals stay locked until partners.whistlr.business verifies you. Use Learn anytime you want the short version of that split. Monetization does not block Connect, preview, or Go Live. There is no follower minimum and no Studio subscription required to keep credentials active or to publish a room.
Starting the encoder alone never opens the room. Credentials and preview are for you; Go Live is for the network.
From Credentials to a Public Live
Confirm the Studio preview is receiving—you should see your encoder output, not just “Ready when you are.” Tap Go Live. Enter a title people can scan in a feed (up to 100 characters; the confirm button stays disabled until you type one). Choose a category from the searchable list; if you skip it, Studio uses Just Chatting. Tap Go Live again on the Stream Information sheet. One action distributes the same broadcast to Flow, Highlights, Following, Discover, your profile, whistlr.network, and the iOS app. You do not configure each surface.
- Credentials failed to load: Tap Try Again until Server URL and Stream Key appear.
- Key leaked: Reset Stream Key, update the encoder, never reuse the old value.
- Preview stuck while encoder runs: Use H.264 Main or Baseline and restart the stream.
- Business+ banner visible: Informational only—streaming remains free without verification.
- Help mid-setup: Stay in the Help tab for ingest and encoder steps next to live credentials.
Where First Launch Fits
First launch assumes you already created a free Whistlr ID (18+) at /signup or signed in at /login. After credentials work and the preview is healthy, use the setup checklist before you tell anyone you are live: title, category, and Go Live confirmation are still required to publish. Optional Business+, Whistlr Go payment setup, and publishing Gems on the WTC tab unlock earnings later—they are not gates on Server URL, Stream Key, or the private preview. Come back to Credentials whenever you rotate a key or set up a new encoder machine.
You are ready for Go Live when Studio Credentials are copied into a Custom RTMP service, the center preview is receiving, and Stream Information has a real title. Everything about payouts and Gems can wait. First launch is only about getting a secret Stream Key into a trustworthy encoder and proving the private preview before the room opens on whistlr.network.
