End Stream on Whistlr Studio and Leave Highlights Cleanly
Ending a Whistlr Live Studio broadcast takes you offline on the network immediately — including the Highlights live streamer rail and every other live feed that showed your room. This guide explains how End Stream works, what the confirm sheet means, what happens to Flow, Highlights, Following, Discover, and your profile when you leave, how Visit Stream disappears, and how to go live again with no cooldown and no follower minimum.
What End Stream Actually Does
Ending the stream takes you offline on Whistlr. The encoder can keep publishing into the private Studio preview, but viewers lose the live and cannot rejoin until you go live again with a new Stream Information pass. End Stream sits on the meta bar under the player only while you are live. Confirming it is immediate — there is no soft offline and no undo. Escape or Cancel on the confirm sheet backs out and leaves you on air.
How to End the Stream Cleanly
Tap End stream under the player (visible only while you are live). Read the confirm: “End stream? This takes you offline right now. Viewers will lose the live and cannot rejoin until you go live again.” Tap Cancel to stay live, or End stream to confirm. After confirm, the red LIVE pill and Visit Stream disappear from the header. The title line under the player returns to Add a title. The preview overlay comes back so you can start the next session. Stop the encoder when you are done for the day so you are not still publishing into an offline studio.
- End stream control: On StudioStreamMeta under the preview; only while live.
- Confirm copy: Offline right now; viewers cannot rejoin until you go live again.
- Cancel / Escape: Stay live; no distribution change.
- After confirm: LIVE pill and Visit Stream gone; title resets to Add a title; overlay returns.
- Encoder: May still feed the private preview — stop it when the day is over.
There is no undo on End stream. Confirming drops every current viewer. Do not tap End stream to “refresh” a glitchy preview — fix the encoder (or H.264 Main / Baseline) first, and only end when the show is actually over.
Highlights: the Live Streamer Rail
Highlights is the live streamer rail — the strip of rooms in progress that sits beside other browsing on the Whistlr network. Someone scrolling can see that you are live without opening Flow on purpose. Treat Highlights as a passerby surface: a clear title and an honest category do more work here than a long explanation. You do not apply to appear in Highlights, and there is no follower gate. The same Go Live that fills Flow also places you on the Highlights rail with the same picture, title, and category.
People do not hunt for a hidden studio URL. They open the surfaces they already use. Flow, Highlights, Following, and Discover are the four live feeds a Go Live fills at once. Flow is the live video home for viewers who came to watch something now. Following is for people who already chose you. Discover is how strangers meet the room by category. Highlights is the passerby rail. After you end the stream, the live cards leave those feeds — including Highlights. Go live again whenever you are ready; there is no cooldown and no follower minimum to re-enter Flow, Highlights, Following, or Discover.

- Following: Your circle — showing up on a schedule they trust keeps the habit.
- Discover: Strangers — honest category plus scannable title is the whole card.
- Your profile: Permanent address; shows the live while you are on air, then returns to offline presence after End stream.
- iOS app: Same feeds and same broadcast; ending Studio ends the room on phone and web together.
Visit Stream Before and After You End
Visit Stream appears in the Studio header only while the broadcast is live and surfaced. It opens the public live page in a new tab so you can see the same room your viewers open — title, category, and chat included. A dark or missing Visit Stream control is a useful signal: the network cannot open you yet, or you have already ended. After End stream, Visit Stream disappears with the LIVE pill. Copy the public live page only while you are on air for “watch right now” links. Copy your whistlr.network profile when you want a link that still works after you end.
Going Live Again After You End
To run another show, keep or replace the Custom RTMP settings in your encoder, hit Start Streaming, wait for the Studio preview to attach, open Stream Information, set title and category, and Go Live again. If you reset the stream key between shows, paste the new key before the next Start Streaming — the old key stops working the moment a new one is issued. Distribution is automatic again: one Go Live re-enters Flow, Highlights, Following, Discover, your profile, whistlr.network, and iOS. You do not configure each surface.
Always-on and short sessions use the same End stream control. You can stream 24/7 and grow an audience for free, or end when a Thursday-night show wraps. There is no subscription to stay live, no 30-day wait before the next session, and no penalty for coming back. If the show changes between sessions — Just Chatting in the afternoon, Gaming at night — update Stream Information before the next Go Live so Discover and Highlights stay honest. A room that never ends still needs a title people can read at 3 a.m. and a category that matches what is on screen; when you do need to leave, End stream is the clean exit.
What Viewers Experience When You End
Confirming End stream drops every current viewer. They have to find the next live after you go live again — through Flow, Highlights, Following, Discover, your profile, or a new public live page once Visit Stream is available again. Chat for that session ends with the live. The private Studio preview may still show your encoder if you left it running; that picture is not public. Do not end to troubleshoot a stuck preview; fix ingest first, then end only when the show is over.
- No undo: Confirm means offline immediately on every Whistlr live surface.
- Highlights clears: Your card leaves the live streamer rail with the other feeds.
- Profile: Stops showing this live; followers still find you for the next session.
- Visit Stream: Hidden until the next live is surfaced.
- Re-entry: Same Go Live path — preview, Stream Information, confirm — no cooldown.
- Monetization: Ending does not require Business+; streaming and ending stay free on every account.
You do not configure these feeds. There is no per-surface toggle and no “leave Highlights only” control. End stream is the distribution off-switch for the whole network at once.
End-of-Show Checklist
Thank the room in Live chat if you want a clear close. Confirm End stream only when you mean to drop viewers. Watch the LIVE pill and Visit Stream disappear. Stop the encoder if you are done for the day. If you are coming right back, leave the encoder running, wait for preview, rewrite Stream Information for the next hour’s title and category, and Go Live again. Point people at your whistlr.network profile between sessions so they can follow for next time without relying on a live page that no longer exists.
End stream and Highlights are two sides of the same publishing path. Go Live places one broadcast on every Whistlr screen, including the Highlights rail. End stream removes that live card everywhere at once. Keep title and category honest before each Go Live so passersby on Highlights and strangers on Discover always see the hour you are actually hosting — and end cleanly when that hour is over.
