Sending and Receiving Messages
Understanding message types, status indicators, and delivery in direct messages
Replyd messenger supports comprehensive message types and delivery mechanisms designed to facilitate rich, expressive communication. Our messaging system handles text, media, files, and interactive content with intelligent delivery optimization, status tracking, and cross-platform synchronization to ensure reliable message delivery across all devices and network conditions.
Sending Messages: Composition and Delivery Workflow Compose messages using the text input field at the bottom of any conversation. Type your message and press Enter or tap the send button to deliver it instantly. For longer messages, the input field expands automatically, and you can use formatting options including bold, italic, code blocks, and mentions. Attach media files by tapping the attachment button, which provides access to your photo library, camera, file system, and voice recording capabilities.

Message delivery reliability is fundamental to effective communication. We've engineered our messaging infrastructure to ensure that messages are delivered quickly, reliably, and securely, regardless of network conditions or device capabilities. Our system employs intelligent retry mechanisms, offline queuing, and cross-platform synchronization to guarantee that your messages reach their intended recipients, even when connectivity is intermittent.
Message Status Indicators: Understanding Delivery States Message status indicators provide transparent feedback about message delivery progress. The "sending" state appears while your message is being transmitted to our servers. "Sent" indicates successful server receipt and queuing for delivery. "Delivered" confirms arrival on the recipient's device, and "read" shows that the recipient has viewed the message. These indicators help you understand message delivery status while respecting privacy settings that may disable read receipts.
Receiving Messages: Notifications and Access When you receive a new message, you'll see a notification on your device (if enabled) and an unread indicator in the conversation list. Open the conversation to view new messages, which appear chronologically with timestamps. Unread messages are highlighted, and you can mark conversations as read manually or automatically when viewing. Message notifications can be customized per conversation or globally through notification settings.
Real-Time Synchronization: Cross-Device Message Access All messages are synchronized in real-time across your devices, ensuring that conversations are accessible from any device where you're logged in. Read status, typing indicators, and message delivery states sync instantly, providing a seamless experience whether you're using the web application, iOS app, or Android app. This synchronization ensures you never miss messages and can continue conversations seamlessly across devices.
Message Delivery Optimization: Our messaging system employs intelligent delivery optimization to ensure fast, reliable message delivery. Messages are prioritized based on content type, recipient online status, and network conditions. Media messages use progressive loading and compression to minimize bandwidth usage while maintaining quality. Failed deliveries automatically retry with exponential backoff, and messages are queued for delivery when recipients are offline, ensuring no messages are lost.
