Influxx is a desktop cockpit for notes, terminals, and command-line agents—built so your plan and your work stay in the same window. This guide walks you through installing Influxx on macOS Apple Silicon, choosing between a direct DMG download and Homebrew, completing first open and optional CLI registration, confirming system requirements, and keeping the app up to date. Follow the path that matches how you usually install Mac apps; both channels deliver the same notarized Apple Silicon build.
Who this install guide is for If you develop on a Mac with Apple Silicon and want one place to write plans, run agents, review diffs, and ship from git, Influxx is designed for that workflow. The desktop app currently ships for macOS Apple Silicon only. Intel Macs and non-macOS desktops are not covered by the public installer described here. You do not need to build from source to use the product—download the DMG or install the Homebrew cask, open the app, and complete onboarding.
Influxx puts notes, terminals, agents, source control, and an embedded browser under one multi-tab cockpit. You write a plan as a note, press Run, and an agent works in its own isolated workspace while you watch and steer. Installation is the first step; after that you pick a default agent, add a project, and optionally enable the Influxx CLI so scripts and agents can drive the same surfaces you use by hand.
Install the app first. The CLI is optional and can be registered later from Settings—nothing blocks you from writing notes and launching agents on day one.
System requirements (macOS Apple Silicon) Before you download, confirm your Mac meets the platform Influxx ships for today.
  • Processor: Apple Silicon only (arm64)—Macs with M-series chips such as M1, M2, M3, M4, and newer. There is no public Intel x64 DMG in this track.
  • Operating system: A current macOS release that can run notarized Developer ID apps. Keep macOS updated so Gatekeeper and security prompts behave as Apple intends.
  • Disk space: Enough free space for the app bundle in Applications plus room for projects, worktrees, and local agent tools you already use.
  • Network (recommended): Online for first download, in-app updates, and optional integrations (for example GitHub tasks). Day-to-day local CLI agent work uses tools and keys already on your machine.
  • Developer tools you already trust: Influxx hosts the command-line agents you choose—it does not replace them. Install and authenticate your preferred agents (for example Claude Code, Codex, Grok, Cursor Agent, OpenCode, and others) so they are available when you launch work from a note or workspace.
  • Git (recommended): Projects are git repos or folder workspaces. Git on the machine is expected for full source-control and worktree workflows.
If you are unsure whether your Mac is Apple Silicon, open Apple menu → About This Mac and check the chip description. Only arm64 Macs should install the public influxx-macos-arm64.dmg or the Homebrew casks described below. Installing on the wrong architecture is not supported by the current desktop channel.
Choose an install channel You can install Influxx two primary ways. Both deliver the notarized Apple Silicon desktop app; pick the one that fits how you manage software on your Mac.
  • Direct DMG: Download influxx-macos-arm64.dmg, open the disk image, and drag Influxx into Applications. Best when you want a one-time installer from the download page or GitHub Releases.
  • Homebrew (stable): brew install --cask influxx — tracks the stable cask channel for command-line package management.
  • Homebrew (release candidate): brew install --cask influxx@rc — use when you want pre-stable builds that match the RC channel.
Public first-install links and the in-app updater resolve from the same live desktop update feed, so the version you see on the download page is the build Check for Updates will offer. Stable is preferred when present; when only an RC channel is live, that is the public channel. Tagged GitHub assets follow the shape influxx-macos-arm64.dmg under each release.
How to install Influxx with the DMG Use this path if you prefer a classic Mac installer from the web or from GitHub Releases.
1. Open the Influxx download page or the latest GitHub release for the project. Choose Download for Mac (Apple Silicon) or the asset named influxx-macos-arm64.dmg.
2. Wait for the download to finish. In Safari or your browser’s downloads list, open the DMG. macOS mounts a disk image that contains the Influxx app.
3. Drag Influxx into your Applications folder. Do not run the app only from the disk image long-term—always copy it to Applications so updates and permissions attach to a stable path.
4. Eject the disk image when the copy finishes (Finder sidebar or right-click → Eject).
5. Open Applications, double-click Influxx. On first launch, macOS may show a standard open confirmation for a downloaded app. Confirm that you want to open Influxx. The build is notarized for Gatekeeper; you should not need to disable security settings to run a legitimate download.
6. If macOS blocks the open with a generic warning, use System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose to open the app if that control appears for a just-downloaded notarized app. Prefer re-downloading from the official download or Releases page rather than installing unknown copies.
How to install Influxx with Homebrew Use Homebrew when you already manage CLI tools and casks from the terminal.
  • Stable cask: In Terminal, run brew install --cask influxx. Homebrew downloads and installs the app for you.
  • Release candidate cask: Run brew install --cask influxx@rc when you intentionally want RC builds.
  • Upgrade later: Use your normal Homebrew upgrade workflow for casks (for example brew upgrade --cask influxx or upgrading the RC cask you installed) so the cask tracks the channel you chose.
After Homebrew finishes, launch Influxx from Applications, Spotlight, or Launchpad. First open still runs the same onboarding flow as a DMG install. You can mix channels carefully—if you installed via Homebrew, prefer upgrading via Homebrew; if you installed via DMG, prefer in-app updates or a newer DMG so you do not fight two managers over the same app bundle.
What “notarized Apple Silicon DMG” means for you The public installer is signed and notarized for macOS. That is why Gatekeeper can accept a download from outside the Mac App Store without you turning off system protections. The artifact name is always influxx-macos-arm64.dmg for this architecture. You do not need a Mac App Store install path for the current desktop track—distribution is direct DMG and Homebrew cask.
First open: onboarding on macOS On first open, Influxx walks you through the essentials so the cockpit matches how you work. Complete the steps at a comfortable pace; you can revisit setup later from the sidebar Setup guide or Settings → Onboarding checklist.
  • Pick your default agent: Choose any CLI agent Influxx knows—Claude Code, Codex, Grok, Cursor Agent, OpenCode, and many more. This is the agent used when you launch work from defaults such as a note Run or a new agent tab, unless you override per launch.
  • Make it feel like home: Set theme and appearance so the cockpit matches your day and night preference.
  • Windows-only steps: Default terminal shell and right-click behavior appear on Windows. On macOS you can skip anything labeled Windows-only.
  • Set up notifications: Allow notifications so you know when an agent finishes or needs attention. You can refine notification behavior later in Settings → Notifications.
  • Set up GitHub tasks (optional): Install the GitHub CLI if you want in-app PRs and issues from the GitHub task path. This is optional at first open.
  • Add your first project: From the notifications step footer or from the sidebar later, add a project—open an existing folder, clone a remote URL, import nested multi-repos, or connect an SSH remote host path.
Anonymous usage sharing is opt-in under Settings → Privacy. You control whether product analytics run; the cockpit is usable without enabling sharing. After onboarding, the in-app Getting started / Setup guide tracks real progress—multi-task worktrees, browser use, notifications, default agent, Influxx CLI, integrations, setup hooks, and multi-repo registration—so you always know what is left to wire up.
After install: add a project and take a first lap Installation is complete when the app opens and onboarding has pointed you at a default agent. To feel the product loop quickly:
  • Add a project from the left sidebar (existing folder, clone, multi-repo import, or SSH host path). Non-git folders can still be folder workspaces with attached worktrees.
  • Select a worktree (the main checkout or a feature worktree) so notes and agents have a place to live.
  • Create a plan note in Sidebar Notes (+ or + First note). Notes are plain markdown under .influxx/notes/ in the worktree.
  • Run the note with the hover Run action so an agent opens with your plan as the prompt.
  • Review and ship from Source Control when ready—annotate diffs, commit, push, and open a PR without leaving the window.
Keyboard habits that help on macOS after install: open Settings with ⌘,, toggle the left sidebar with ⌘B, open Source Control with ⌘⇧G, create a workspace with ⌘N, and open a new markdown tab with ⌘⇧M. Remap anything later in Settings → Shortcuts.
Optional: register the Influxx CLI The desktop app is enough for notes, agents, terminals, and review. The Influxx CLI is optional. It lets agents and scripts drive the same cockpit—worktrees, terminals, browser automation, orchestration, computer use, and more—by talking to a running Influxx app. Register it when you want shell access to those surfaces.
  • When to install: After the app is installed and you have opened it at least once. Install the app first; register the CLI later from Settings whenever you are ready.
  • Where in Settings: Open Settings → General (CLI section) and run Install CLI. That registers a launcher on your PATH.
  • Bundle location: The binary lives as bin/influxx inside the app bundle; Install CLI wires a convenient command so you do not have to type the full bundle path.
  • Verify: In a new terminal window, run influxx status (or influxx status --json). Useful first commands include influxx open --json and influxx agent-context --json.
  • Setup checklist: “Enable Influxx CLI” on the Getting started checklist means the CLI is installed and related skills (browser, computer use, orchestration, and similar) are available for agent workflows.
Preferred brand command on Mac is influxx. Dev builds may use a separate command name; product documentation examples use influxx. There is no separate notes subcommand group for list/open/new/run today—create and edit notes as markdown in the UI or on disk, Run from the sidebar, and export context under .influxx/context for CLI agent workflows when needed.
Permissions and privacy after install Influxx may request macOS permissions as you enable features—not all at first click. Notifications are part of onboarding. Computer Use and related automation may ask for Accessibility and similar controls under Settings → macOS Permissions when you turn those capabilities on. Grant only what you use. Privacy controls live under Settings → Privacy; anonymous usage sharing stays opt-in.
Remote machines are supported after install: Settings → SSH Hosts lets agents run on a powerful box with file editing, git, terminals, reconnect, and port forwards. That is optional; a local Apple Silicon Mac alone is enough to start.
How updates work on macOS Desktop updates use the same feed as the public download page, so first install and later upgrades stay aligned.
  • Background updates: New builds can land automatically through the desktop update feed. When an update is ready, it applies on the next launch and can show what changed.
  • Check for Updates: Use the in-app Check for Updates action when you want to pull the latest build on demand. It uses the same feed the download page resolves.
  • What you see: Version labels match the published channel (stable when available, otherwise the live RC). Release notes and “what’s new” surfaces describe changes for each ship.
  • Homebrew users: You can continue upgrading the cask with Homebrew for the channel you installed (influxx or influxx@rc). Avoid installing one channel with Homebrew and overwriting the app with a different channel’s DMG unless you intend to switch.
  • Fresh DMG reinstall: You can always download the latest influxx-macos-arm64.dmg again and replace the app in Applications if you prefer a clean copy of the current public build.
After an update installs, reopen Influxx and confirm your projects still appear in the sidebar. Local project data and preferences stay on your machine across normal upgrades. If you ever need a known-good build for a team pin, GitHub Releases lists published assets by version tag with the same arm64 DMG name.
Install checklist (quick reference) Use this list to confirm a complete, healthy install on Apple Silicon.
  • Hardware: Mac with Apple Silicon (arm64), not Intel-only.
  • Installer: DMG influxx-macos-arm64.dmg or Homebrew cask influxx / influxx@rc.
  • Location: App lives in Applications (or Homebrew’s standard app location).
  • First open: Onboarding completed—default agent, appearance, notifications; optional GitHub CLI for tasks.
  • Project: At least one project or folder workspace added from the sidebar.
  • CLI (optional): Settings → General → Install CLI; influxx status succeeds in Terminal.
  • Updates: Check for Updates once after install so you are not sitting on an older feed snapshot.
  • Agents: Your preferred CLI agents installed and authenticated on the Mac so Run and new agent tabs can launch them.
Troubleshooting common install issues Most install problems on Mac come from architecture mismatch, incomplete copy from the DMG, or a PATH that does not yet see the CLI.
  • App will not open on Intel Mac: The public desktop channel is Apple Silicon only. Use an arm64 Mac or a remote Apple Silicon host; there is no Intel DMG in this track.
  • Opened from the DMG window only: Drag Influxx to Applications, eject the image, and launch from Applications so the app is not running from a temporary mount.
  • Homebrew cask not found: Update Homebrew and retry brew install --cask influxx or the RC cask. Confirm you typed the cask name exactly.
  • CLI command not found: Register the CLI from Settings after the app is installed; open a new terminal so PATH reloads; verify with influxx status.
  • Agent fails on first Run: Confirm a workspace is selected and the default agent binary is installed and on PATH. Onboarding picks a default; Settings → Agents can change it and override launch commands.
  • Stuck on an old version: Use Check for Updates in the app, or reinstall the latest DMG / upgrade the Homebrew cask for your channel.
If Gatekeeper still refuses a file you obtained from a mirror or email forward, delete it and download again from the official download page or GitHub Releases so you get a notarized copy of influxx-macos-arm64.dmg.
